De fascinerende Indiase tabla
De tabla komt uit de Noord Indiase klassieke muziek. Dit fascinerende muziekinstrument heeft veel karakteristieke, bijzondere klanken waarmee je poëtische ritmes kunt maken. Je kunt de ritmes spelen, maar ook uitspreken, omdat ze op een taal zijn gebaseerd! Tabla leren spelen kun je dan ook voor een deel zonder het instrument bij de hand te hebben, omdat je de composities kunt oefenen in je hoofd.
De ritmes van de tabla hebben veel met natuurlijke taal te maken en dat maakt veel improvisatie en creativiteit mogelijk. We hebben als mens ver ontwikkelde taalvaardigheden en die kun je gebruiken op je tabla. Tabla-virtuoos Ustad Zakir Hussain vertelt een interessante anekdote hierover tijdens Talks at Google:
Wat leer je in deze workshop over de Indiase tabla
In deze introductie tot de Indiase tabla maak je kennis met de achtergrond en context van dit percussie-instrument en met de tabla-taal en tabla-klanken. Je leert zelf een ritme-compositie uitspreken. Verder wordt er kort aandacht besteed aan het op de tabla spelen van enkele basisklanken die in deze compositie voorkomen. De workshopleider heeft al meer dan 25 jaar ervaring in tabla en Indiase percussie geleerd van gerenommeerde tablaspelers.
Deze workshop is bedoeld voor als je wilt kennismaken met de tabla en/of de taal van de tabla.
Heb je een tabla-set, neem deze dan gerust mee.

The fascinating Indian tabla
The tabla comes from North Indian classical music. This fascinating musical instrument has many characteristic, special sounds with which you can create poetic rhythms. You can play the rhythms, but also pronounce them, because they are based on a language! You can partly learn to play tabla without having the instrument at hand, because you can practice the compositions in your head.
The rhythms of the tabla have a lot to do with natural language and that allows for a lot of improvisation and creativity. As humans we have highly developed language skills and you can use them on your tabla. Tabla virtuoso Ustad Zakir Hussain tells an interesting anecdote about this during Talks at Google (section starts at 28:00):
What will you learn in this workshop about the Indian tabla
In this introduction to Indian tabla you will be introduced to the background and context of this percussion instrument and to the tabla language and tabla sounds. You learn to pronounce a rhythm composition yourself. Furthermore, brief attention is paid to playing some basic sounds on the tabla that occur in this composition. The workshop leader has more than 25 years of experience in tabla and Indian percussion, learning from renowned tabla players.
This workshop is intended if you want to become acquainted with the tabla and/or the language of the tabla. If you have a tabla set, feel free to bring it with you.
